Frequently asked questions

Here are a few questions I am frequently asked. Although I was raised in a very scientific community, you’ll notice my answers are softer. I encourage you to send me questions.  Yours might be answered here!

General questions

What are some of the benefits of moving to the brain wave’s theta state?

Whether you access a peace filled, calm mind through Reiki, meditation, yoga or another practice, the goal is to get the brain to shift from being ultra present to what brain experts call the theta brain wave state.

The benefits can include:

  • Stress and anxiety reduction
  • Increase of joy/contentment/satisfaction
  • Flow of authentic, unique creativity
  • Ability to fully rest and awaken relaxed, yet ready for the day

Reiki questions

What is Reiki?

Reiki (pronounced “ray-key”) is a cousin to meditation. The National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine says:

Reiki is a complementary health approach in which practitioners place their hands lightly on or just above a person, with the goal of directing energy to help facilitate the person’s own healing response. It’s based on an Eastern belief in an energy that supports the body’s innate or natural healing abilities.

I’ve found Reiki to strongly support our spiritual, social, emotional, physical and mental inner being.

How is Reiki different from meditation?

Although the benefits of both meditation and Reiki may be similar, they are different in practice. Meditation, for me, has an element of talking/listening within the mind. Reiki can be more kinesthetic in practice as the body moves towards healing.

Whether one is using the energy practice of Reiki on oneself or another, in person or virtually, the one connecting to Source of Reiki is becoming a conduit for the experience.  The goal is always to help the body move towards homeostasis or wholeness, which is called healing.

How does one learn Reiki?

Learning Reiki encompasses several parts: learning what Reiki is, how to apply it, best practices and the attunements. I think of attunements like having my piano tuned.  The piano tuner knows the pre-existing vibration and helps the instrument to be in sync with the vibration. In Reiki, the attuned teacher leads a meditation or ceremony in which the pre-existing healing vibration of Reiki is placed or synched with the person who is learning. Once attuned, the person is able to access the vibration of Reiki on behalf of herself, himself or any living thing.

Speaking questions

What topics do you most often speak on?

As an educator and energetic interpreter, stories are the best way to demonstrate and expand the topic. Sarah chooses ones from her time living in Africa, in addition to her experiences in Europe and America.

Topics often include:

  • What do you love about your current life?
  • What would you most like to change?
  • What are you willing to do to make that change happen?
